 | Inheritance is an integrated project combining English,
US History and media, in which students examine the impact of the 1954 Brown v Board decision to de-segregate schools.
AIM students studied US race relations by reading, writing about and discussing Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man
and Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn, while studying the legacy of slavery and racial segregation in US History.
AIM students supplemented their instruction with independent research and applied their knowledge in a contemporary
context by combining historical images and quotations in "Visual Poems" or creating documentaries investigating Bay Area schools and their
struggle to fulfill the promise of Brown v Board of Education fifty years later.
